Thank you Brein. Finally a voice of reason that makes a solid argument without making it personal. I can both accept that I am wrong about why people left and that the way I phrased my initial argument was wrong. I'm still tempted to believe however that the "negative aura" contributed in some way to people's perceptions, but since those on the inside vehemently deny there was any negative influence from competition in people's decisions to leave their guild for the other, I will accept that and concede that any influence was likely trivial.

Wow can people take some crap that happened months ago way too seriously. For what it's worth Lanbana, you are completely wrong though since it was a long time ago and you weren't in either guild nobody should fault you, but maybe you should read between the lines. If everyone is telling you the exodus didn't happen because there was competition, what could it be? Hrmmm...

You'd be amazed how long people carry grudges around for.

Prexus used to be a calendar rotation, tiered server where you had to kill all the mobs in the previous tier in order to even be SCHEDULED to raid a new mob. This was broken ages ago by a couple of guilds who decided they would kill whatever was up no matter who was scheduled for it. Prexus turns into FCFS server. Poof!

The shitstorm that immediately followed is STILL brought up on flames on the board. I'm not kidding in the grudges that have been held. This happened over 3 YEARS ago, and it's still being tossed around.

Another good example is almost any guild that knowingly wakes the sleeper gets an immediate "everyone on the server hates them" and sometimes even disbands.

I'd still like to see this thread split (what it originally was and it's derailment) and the original thread stickied.

I'd like to see a new thread stickied with the list and keep it heavilly moderated. People could post updates, and after the update is made, the new post could be deleted.

Don't take my post as taking it too seriously. It was a legitimate feud back then and it did influence what people did guild wise. On the other hand, I also feel that it's been resolved, people moved to where they are happy and the guild tensions are nothing like what they were back then.

Ummm, no. It was never a "feud" of any sort.

Actually, on Temerity's internal boards, there was much ridicule thrown around, not of DC or of the single "incident", but of all the supposedly "uninvolved third parties" on EQMac that knew exactly what was going on and wanted to create drama where there was none.

Looks like they're still trolling.

Competition requires an equal opponent.

Not at all. The terms "heavily favored" or "underdog" come to mind immediately. Even the more mundane example of playing a board game with your kid. :)

Back on topic:

Is the Arch Lich really Tier 7? Temerity's internal list has him as Tier 6, and that seems more reasonable from our latest experience.

Yup, I checked the official Stormhammer listings, he is 7. I had written it from memory last time and I guess I messed up. Aside from our Technical Knock Out of AoW (0%) we kinda skipped tier 6.

For reference, the official Stormhammer tiers listing that Cads sent me tonight.

There is definitely widely-varying difficulty in the tiers. For instance I don't think TIV is a hard fight at all -- even getting to him, as long as you have some decent raid skills. Tormax on the other hand still makes me nervous when we do him. And both are tier4.

Compare Statue to Iky/Eashan.

Rhag2 (including the crawl) to Zlandi.

Really, Kyth? I tend to think of Tormax as pretty routine. He hits hard, but other than the occasional difficulty getting a clean pull, he's just melee. A lot of melee, but he doesn't have any AEs or special procs to deal with, and we'll know in the first 15 seconds or so if we got any adds. I'd think that something like TIV, with the blindness and the knockback, would be more worrying, since there are more things that can go wrong.

Of course, I'm not part of the healing crew, so I don't have the same perspective you do.

And this doesn't really change your statement that there's wide variety within a tier. I definitely agree with that.
