thought i'd make an intro thread. i've played EQ on PC since i was basically a kid. i'm now 20, and got tired of the rifraff of the PC EQ servers. i'm originally from E'ci server, but after they merged i left live play altogether and went to test, where i now have a 90 monk. The problem with test is that there's no real community... nobody feels like helping anybody out, etc etc. i haven't gotten a mac yet, as i don't know what would be best, but i've been looking on CL for a good used mac (good luck with me getting a new one! $1700 for the mac i want :( )

Goatallgone, you need an intel CPU Mac to play Mac EQ. Anything called "Power Mac" won't cut it. Do research before buying.

A brand spanking new Mac Mini is $799 for one with a dedicated graphics card. This would d a great many things for you, including allow you to run Bootcamp and load Windows and run Windows applications native as well. 2 computers in one!

trying to stray away from a brand new computer, simply because I really can't afford one lol. But, I've been looking and I think I've found a nice little MacBook pro... I'm gonna give him a call later today and see if it's still available. it has 6 gigs of ram, 120 gig hdd, and 2.0GHZ intel core two duo... OS X leopard.

Goatallgone, you need a MBP (or iMac) with a video card with at least 256Mb of vram. Older MBPs might only have onboard video, not a separate video card. You can see the hardware in the link from the menubar apple icon > About This Mac > More Info.
This one sounds quite old. Leopard? Really? I'd be wary of anything pre-2008, unless it's a lightly-used creampuff with adequate specs, that you can upgrade to Lion. But that might be me: I like to keep my software current.

Utdaan's recommendation for a brand new mini is a very good one, if you can also get the necessary peripherals: monitor, keyboard, mouse. Then I wouldn't run an expensive piece of equipment without at least a surge protector, or, far better, a UPS (uninterruptible power supply, like those made by APC.)

well, with alot of numbers crunching, budget editing, and a few sleepless nights, I've figured out I can afford a refurbished macbook pro (like this one) http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD313LL/A in 9-12 months.. but it's gonna take alot of gas out of my truck. lol
