When I first played I downloaded 1 update that was 2GB and I assumed it contained everything that I needed to play—mostly because I was able to play. :)

Anyways, I logged off and wanted to play later. Once I tried to log on the 2nd time the patcher wanted me to download an update that would have taken almost 10 hours to complete and more than likely would not have fit on my very small remaining hard drive.

Since I was able to play perfectly the first time without the 2nd update, how can I prevent it? Obviously you are intended to be able to play with just the first 2 GB update, and thats what is advertised in EQmac as being required. How can I only run that first update?

Please help! This will make or break me playing EQmac.

Thanks.

Make sure the patcher is set to Live. The Test client will take another 2gb if you download it.

Are you using the Intel client or PPC client? (Do you have to open a web browser to launch the game?)

I don't open a web browser. At least I don't think. Its just like old school. I open the patcher. It checks for updates, then I launch the game from there.

I just need for it to download only the initial 2GB patch that lets me play the game anyways.

You might want to post the specs of your Mac (Model, Processor, RAM, OS version) so we have some idea what you're using.

Since you're on an Intel processor, you should be using the newer client. It's getting developer support and runs much faster than the one you're using.

You'll have to download it all over again, but you can delete the old client.

I don't know that the new client is working. Its been initializing for about 15 minutes and my browser is saying the page is "done." But I could be wrong—it might just be taking forever to initialize.

[edit] attempted in both Firefox and Safari.

I have a feeling the new client doesn't work on 10.4, but I could be wrong.

How much of the instructions and tips have you read in this thread?

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10782

The very first post from Hobart states that the new client minimum OS requirement is 10.5 and you are running 10.4. That's only for downloading the client I believe. If you can find someone with an Intel Mac running 10.5.x or newer that can download the file and put it on a thumb drive for you, you should be able to run the Intel version. Most likely your OS version is what is causing the inability to get past initializing.

The possibility of being able to download it on somebody else's 10.5 is up in the air at the moment. I am sure I can find somebody eventually, but I can't exactly mark it on their/my schedule.

Is there any way to fix this problem (the additional updates) with the old patcher?

Nope. The old patcher/client is PPC only. PPC is pre Intel processor Macs (G4/G5) and is run on your Mac via a program called Rosetta which translates the application into something your computer can understand. Until you can actually get the new Intel Client on your MacBook, disregard any of the instructions in the posted thread. There is no browser that launches the old client. It is it's own application. If you downloaded the old client, you should find a folder on your hard drive named EverQuest. Inside you will see EverQuestLP.app and a Game folder. The EverQuestLP.app launches the game for you.

Does Apple still even support 10.4?

You're gonna have to upgrade at some point...
