Cool Raven - though like you said, 60 seconds doesn't say much. However seeing Rysia that high is pretty impressive. I'd be curious to see if she is that high all time time. That 120's ranger may have been me, as I was sending tells to Khorpus during that fight, therefore not shooting arrows like I should have been the whole time /guilty.

Honestly, in 60 seconds, a couple lucky backstab crits (or /disc and a good run of hits) are probably enough to put you 50% ahead of the next highest guy.

That said, I think these results are deeply meaningful and profoundly persuasive, and they should lay to rest the melee DPS question for all time. Rogues are 2-3 times as much DPS as rangers, and paladins are about 12 times as much DPS as Cabot.

You all catch on to the sarcasm as to why short duration parses are pretty much meaningless? ;)

Heh, I knew posting those numbers was a bad idea.

It was a whim, and I wasn't making any point or meta-point. Please believe that I wasn't obliquely mocking the idea of short raid parses any more than I meant to suggest the numbers were in any way accurate or representative! I just found them funny ;)

Actually it's an excellent example of Gnostica's point about tells. I spent the majority of that fight typing lol :)

Heh, we could use these dps parses as a "name and shame" tactic for our raids. I bet DPS would pick up big-time if parses were posted. If anything, it would bring out the competitive fire in folks.

If i wanted that i'd go back to WoW, leave competitive DPS to games who care about it unless you're consistently failing a DPS check encounter.. BST was on abolish dis of the MT. Wasn't the PAL tanking? Hard to pull DPS from the front?

You guys worry way too much about numbers.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure I used Duelist disc during that fight.

Oh, I just realized RW's numbers were only *melee* DPS. I held my tongue earlier from saying "But hey as distracted as I was, I know I lobbed more nukes than that!". I was swinging kelp mace between nukes, that was my 4.5 melee dps contribution :)

DPS classes who want to play at the higher end of their class need to parse their DPS. If your guild is having troubles killing stuff and more DPS would help, then it behooves all DPSers to know how they're doing. And comparing amongst folks is how you measure yourself. If your numbers are low, maybe it's your class, maybe it's your gear, maybe it's your play style. For two out of the 3, there are things you should do to fix it.

I do not play DPS classes on this server, but I did in WoW. And everyone uses add-ons and figures out what works for them. Huge huge discussions on the right spell rotation, etc, etc. And the differences could be huge just by doing small changes. This isn't WoW, but still...

As i said before, if this was the case i would agree, it's not. Let the people who want to parse their DPS do so, don't start parsing entire raids for the sake of comparing people to each other randomly without stipulating assigned roles or people start pointing the finger for no reason without knowing half the data. Also please don't compare spell rotations in WoW and EQ, the simplicity of the combat in EQ (especially melee) has nothing to do with playing say a feral druid competitively, or any class but arcane mage for that matter.

What part of "this isn't WoW, but still" implied I was trying to make unreasonable comparisons?

And which part of 'we have zero problem killing everything so we shouldn't start parsing every raid' was confusing? =p
WoW players parsed EVERY encounters. Some to better the raid, some to just link the parses every time they were 1k ahead of everyone else, some to point out the bad players in PUGs etc etc. Some WoW encounters are designed to be DPS checks.
A LOT of your DPS in WoW is 'skill' (Read: your ability to maintain a rotation without walking into the fire puddles). DPS in EQ in comparison is 90 percent gear 10 percent 'skill' (in this case read what spells to cast in what situation and for melee not eat the AOE rampage and huh ...yeah). Parsing every raid and comparing people up like Tarkon was suggesting in an EQ guild that has never hit a roadblock due to DPS serves very little purpose to the guild.
Even on PC at the time, outside of curiosity, the only good thing that ever came out of parsing DPS live was using it as a poor man's threat meter.

Just a preliminary run using Zenum's parser for Reksar:

Combat stats for Reksar MIN-[AV]-MAX
kick : 14.9 DPS ( 0.21%) DMG: 14-[15]-79 TOTAL=209 SWINGS: 14 [Single=14(100.0%)]
non-melee : 13.5 DPS ( 7.46%) DMG: 34-[69]-150 TOTAL=7500 SWINGS: 108 [Single=88(90.7%) Double=7(7.2%) Triple=2(2.1%)]
pierce : 28.7 DPS ( 3.91%) DMG: 20-[27]-90 TOTAL=3931 SWINGS: 147 [Single=102(82.9%) Double=19(15.4%) Triple=2(1.6%)]
punch : 77.8 DPS (88.42%) DMG: 7-[39]-215 TOTAL=88899 SWINGS: 2265 [Single=201(18.9%) Double=581(54.8%) Triple=235(22.1%) Quad=39(3.7%) 5=5(0.5%)]
================================================================================
total : 88.0 DPS (100.0%) DMG: 7-[40]-215 TOTAL=100539

Note I was in a 6 person group and 3 boxing a BL/Clr/Ench. I wasn't focusing on Reksar because I had 3 other toons with me. Reksar did have fero and avatar up for most of the run, and I used his AA offensive disc and his normal disc on the first fight (once avatar proc'd). Reksar was also tanking and pulling mobs so the actual durations may be off because I don't know when Zenum's parser starts fights and some of the PoD Bulks pulls are a bit longish.

Anyways, next time I get a chance to hop into PoV and focus a bit more I'll remember to turn my warder's damage filter on as well.

Ahh, for the days before DPS discussions became ubiquitous. 8 Pages that read like World of Warcraft general chat.
