One of the things that I heard SOE was planning on doing is giving double experience for a period of time. I figure they are talking about the PC side since they don't really consider us when they are making decisions. Therefore I been on this server for over a couple of years and haven't ever seen them change anything including changing experience per kill percentage. Even if they wanted to double our current experience for a month, could they even do it??

And where did you hear that? I do not believe SOE said anything about giving double xp in eq.

Hobart is likely the only person that would even know how to change something like that, and he's not even "working" on EQMac.

If they get in there and start messing with our code, we may never be able to play again :P

I just want em to get it back up and running... then send a GM to give us free stuff :)

I don't really want anything free for my characters, the nature of the game is character advancement and having stuff given to you in game by the company really defeats the purpose for me. Free account time is fine though.

And yeah Bailamos, I'm nervous myself about them going anywhere near the Mac code. If anything were to make them change it, this would definitely be it. Otherwise if Al'Kabor comes back up unchanged, this is a pretty good sign that it will never ever be changed in the future.

Had a BBQ with Hobart last night.

Will share a couple of things.

1) With the layoffs at SOE, his workload has increased so he can't give this project as much time as he has in the past. Also, his roomate is an ex-SOE employee (coder) and she has offered to help him with tweaking database discrepencies, event/encounter issues (i.e. VZ not respawning properly in 3 days after being killed), and UI tweaking. Once Hobart gets the code to compile, she's jumping in to assist.

and the big one all have been waiting for...

2) John Smedley has officially stated that EQMac is NOT going to shut down. Once Hobart does the initial work on his own for recompiling the code, they will allow some legitimate work on the client/server to fix thngs.

It's not going to be fixed overnight, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. One thing Hobart did not mention to Smed was Rosetta going away in OS 10.7. I think we'll revisit that in a month or so once SOE recovers from their current issues with the hacker.

An Additional question:

Some rumors I've heard is they SOE will be changing login parameters. From what I believe would need to happen in order to change any logging in parameters, such as encryption changes, it would require both a server change and client change. If that is true, wouldn't that mean either EQMac is finished and will not come back online or that SoE will assign people to write the code for EQMac and we would get an update a few months from now??

Doubt anyone at SOE could even answer that. They'll think about that problem once it becomes a problem.

My understanding is that Al'Kabor operates with two login servers. Our client logs into a kind of bastard server that then logs into the true SoE servers, then returns back all the correct tokens to log the character into our game server. Last time they changed the true SoE servers we had a bit of an issue with Lewt (since he logs in through a slightly different route), but it was easy for them to correct.

I'm guessing that they will just need to update our (bastard) login server to accommodate the new security measures, leaving our real client / server alon

I'll be happy to take a free mana stone in exchange for the down time inconvenience. =) Reason being it is just not possible to advance to any point and get one legitimately. I think items/prizes like that are good... mana stone, DE Mask (and maybe a stone of gnoming or something like that for DE's), as mentioned holgresh elder beads, etc.

I /agree with Indie we need to push them hard for some free stuff. everyone needs to send pms and petitions to devs and the new PR guy. We need to bug them and tell them how ticked we are until they respond in the right manner.
