The default auto-attack key mapping is idiotic. I recommend changing it to something you won't hit when you don't want it (I set mine to the keypad enter key). You can remap things in Options (Option-O).

Way ahead of ya. I figured out what I did and immediately changed it to Q

I type "semi"-fast and sloppy (40wpm) and it is very hard getting used to hitting "Enter" First!! It is usually the last key one hits.

Trials and Tribulations, those that stick at it, usually find that its worth it in the long haul, and EQ has so much depth of game, once you find your place you will be here for a while to come.

Does sound like you are getting to grips with it.

EQ back in the day wasn't -as- bad starting out because more than likely you had a few people next to you who were also dead and memming spells. You could share what little bits of knowledge you had picked up from the day before or discuss how you just learned to make a hot-key or a macro.

That brings back memories of sitting around the fire dancers with other newish Vah Shirs in Shadeweavers Thicket. Mem'ing spells, throwing the occasional heal, sharing food. Ah those were those days. And I DON'T miss them much

Welcome to the game, Wymyn. Sounds like you are actually learning it like a lot of us did, and maybe learning it better since you are asking for advice. Good for you! I was afraid of everyone and everything my first month or so, and nearly didn't come back after beta. Glad I did as the people are great and the game has been fun on many different levels.

And I learned something from you - I had no idea that a necro could walk around Qeynos without getting killed, talking to Paladins no less!!!

Oh and I know I made a million Noob mistakes, did it all wrong, picked the wrong class, picked the wrong race, did my stats wrong, picked the wrong ____________ (fill in). But isn't that what its all about? Wonder how many, as my wife did, simply quit?

Lots of lots have quit =).

Most of the players who have been around since 2003 or 2004 have gone through the difficult grind of progressing through the game without twinking or powerlevelling. I think those experiences tend to keep people around. 90-95% of the people quitting the game now have started playing in the last year.

Whatever you chose I'm sure you'll have fun. Goodluck to you!

Eventually you may start your typing using a command (i.e. /say Oh look, it's Hebabbilys the Ragelord, /poke Mechaike, /consent Rysia, /tell Zygor Rezz please, /tar Stamm's corpse, /follow).

The "/" key starts the typing in the chat window without having to hit enter first.

Eventually you start doing it (/gu, /say, /t, /rs) when IMing in RL...

I've enjoyed reading this thread. It's a good one and now I'm a follower of wymyn and his adventures. Please keep us updated on your progress the next few weeks at least!

Could not log on for the last couple of nights and next week I'll be back to days for the rest of the year.

Someone said last night about windows mode and going into my INI file and setting it to true ... I did that and I found that MIP Mapping was on.

I put that to False and I was able to increase my screen resolution to the highest setting again.
Now All I need to do is get my new interface loaded and I'll be set until the next "must do" thing.

I think I was a little to quick to critize someone last night. if that person is reading ... sorry bout that.
I asked for how to go into windows mode and got a wize crack answer and I jumped on the poor slob. How was he to know that I had spent the day trying to get my wife to figure it out while at work and had to hear about what a pain I am and not to ask her to help with the game anymore and blah blah ...

So, sorry.

Tonight I hope to try the invis run to get that mask. I got the book and I hope to get the maps to make it. We shall see.
