I have 2 copies of eq (1 on each of my HDs). The other day the first instance would not start, it kept crashing when I would hit "PLAY" after logging in. So I switched to my other copy and it was working fine. Then today neither works. I googled the error message in the crash and found that people over various OSX versions having similar problems.

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS

My OSX is version 10.5.7 (9J61)

It may have updated the OS at some point before the first one started crashing, but I was playing with the 2nd one last night just fine.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

No clue what the problem is, but if it use to work and doesn't now and nothing else changed.. i.e. new installs of software, new modem, etc. then I would suspect corruption of one or more of the files. Therefore I would delete everything in the game folder except I would move my player files somewhere temporary first and download the game again. Before putting the player files back in the folder start up the game and make sure it works.

That may be the only solution, I will download a fresh EQ and keep a back up for when it happens again.

I'm having this issue too.. It was working fine on Friday, and now it keeps timing out or crashing after hitting play (I'm pretty sure I haven't installed anything new or updated any settings). Did a reinstall of the game work?

follow up.. I deleted and replaced the eqclient.ini file, and that seems to have fixed it. Unfortunately now I need to update all my settings again..

That is what I ended up doing. Luckily it hasn't done it again for a few weeks, still not sure what was causing it. (My EQ also stopped freezing/crashing!)
