first off I want to say you guys make me super jealous! The game is in shambles as of late on the PC side and you guys get to be stuck in the glory days of the best game ever created!

with that said is this community still kicking?
What classes would you need the most?
Has any guild beaten time?
How far are you all on progression?
do most guilds still welcome outsiders to their raids?
are there a lot of lower lvl characters to help a new guy lvl up?

just some questions as I think i may be finding a way to get a mac! I am a ranger for life and i used to be so excited to log into this game back when people actually wanted to play together. no with the introduction of mercs grouping is a thing of the past.

HA! I see you got in!

I answered your first 4 questions over on Outrider's so I'll not bore the others here.

We've been getting a steady trickle of new players coming to the server as of late...mostly ex-EQPC players looking for that "Classic" server. From what they've said, they are really enjoying things here. The General forum would be a great place to start looking for all the comments from the new players.

Welcome to Al'Kabor! Now go get your Mac!

We still have an active community. Things are picking up once again now that the fall season is here.

Furthest any guild has reached is the EPs. No EP bosses have died yet.

Most guilds are still pre-VT. There are a few guilds that have days where anyone can raid with them.

Lots of people here roll new characters and there are several new people that just started recently. I would say it is slightly easier to group here as opposed to PC and of course you have a much smaller hill to climb to be useful on raids.

I am pretty new here as well. I started a few months ago. I am having a great time. EQMac has a very nice and helpful community.

Be sure to join the alliance channel and people will be more then happy to assist you and answer questions.

If you have any questions or need assistance you can PM me or tell in game.

How is it in shambles? (It's been a while since I've been there.)

Acemac this is the first place I ever rolled a toon. It was a year ago roughly, I happened to pick a ranger. After reading some on the pc side about rangers IMO this is THE place to be a ranger.

Bow dps rocks and with the typical AM3 and EQ it sets you well on the way to being a dps asset to those around you. If you solo this will be the only way you do it at high levels here . Root and shoot. I solo a fair bit and have enjoyed seeing my aa's reduce my time per kill.

As others have said the community is great. As a ranger here you really are utilized as a utility class. Simple things on a small server make a big difference in xp groups, for example having snare. Often when grinding in a group there wont be a class in the group that can mez adds or root them effectively. So at times you would be getting aqgro off the casters and sticking that mob somewhere out of the way. You will deffinitly be pulling a LOT, however the scope of typical xp places is very limited and does get a bit boring. Plane of Valor is the xp hang out here. So you will be pulling a LOT in the same place :)

But thats how I spent many levels there and aa's just pulling and plucking arrows. AN enjoyable thing has been that with gaining defensive aa's, and through time gaining some good but by no means uber gear I often get the call up as a tank for xp groups. This is a nice change of pace.

On that same line I found a home in a smaller guild, we are posting in the guild section after all. That has made this fulling out of my ranger toon that much more enjoyable because I have seen the major difference of being able to do some crowd control on raids without dying in the process. Very rewarding when your own efforts helps others.

You would know better than I if when raiding in the elemental planes this same aspect holds true.

I guess in short as Cicero advertises LOL, being a jack of many trades and master of none, is often as good as being a master at that trade here since at times the option of a bad tank, is no tank LOL.

Lastly I considered myself new a year ago and you truly do get to know the other new mains who began in your same timeframe. Now there have been about double the amount of new players since that time and with more players starting all the time its actually starting to be hard to spot new players.

Cheers, enjoy your trip through if you so choose!!

This server is awesome and has the best people of any online community. I've been here a few weeks and have had great fun. I picked a druid for soloability but if your proactive you can find partners to duo with or fill out a nice team. It seems to me that the class most lacking are the ones that don't solo well such as warrior, and cleric. There seems to be plenty of rogues strangely :P

yes. bards lvl up crazy fast up too 60... then it tapers off. AE kiting i found is not easy duo to pathing and lag.

chant kiting is about as good as a full group in pov ( at 65 ) once you get a few instrument aa's. i get an aa an hour or less solo. but very boring!

I think we can safely say there are no classes that are over-represented. Not even druids. Play what you think will be fun. There will be a slot for you.

That being said, the least represented classes *appears to be*:

-Rogues
-Bards

I agree with Josh that we dont have tons of Rogues here. But I would say the role we lack the most at high levels are tanks, most tanks I play with are bots or alts it seems.

Tanks and healers both. Two of the most essential for raiding =)

Maybe it's just that Destiny is blessed, especially with tanks. But when we go places with a door that needs to be opened, someone has to pull out their seldom-played, dual-comped rogue to pick the locks. Slightly better situation on bards, but not by a lot.

I know this reply is a little late, but I joined this past week and came from WoW where things were very different. Guess what? Everquest is a much better game and I am enjoying every minute of it! Being entirely new to the whole EQ game, and even telling a friend to try it out, I think the game has a lot of future promise.
