Hi all

Just looking for some feedback from anyone who has used a 2007 mac mini (or older) for EQmac? Or perhaps anyone else who uses a mac with the intel integrated GMA 950 graphics?

Does it run well (read, no clip plane needed) with the Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics, or should i get the newer model?

If it does run well, did you find you needed to upgrade the ram?

Heh, thanks for the responses guys, but if eq will run well enough on the older one, id really like to save the dosh (unless you're saying youve used an older one and its not good enough?.

Plus, this clearance deal on the older mac minis only runs for this weekend.

$300 more for better integrated graphics is a lot to pay.

I know the intel 950 is a pretty blah video card, my pc laptop has an nvidia 8400m video card and I can run eq for pc pretty decently.

I am assuming the mac minis 9400m is comparable if not better than the 8400m.

I asked some people about their new mac mini's 2009 edition with the supposed (5x faster) video card 9400m, and they said they can two box with no lag everything max (besides a lot of mouse lag apparently). However, in the PoK they got stuttering which is to be expected. Maybe that will help you make your decision, just thought I'd throw that out there.

hmm i guess unless i hear otherwise i will go ahead and buy the older mac mini. Worst comes to worst i can sell it on ebay and not lose too much money.

It'll run just fine... I had a Core Duo MacBook with the same graphics card with 2 GBs of RAM it ran pretty well.

I never tried... I had it set to 1280 x 800 resolution (max resolution for MacBooks) with max settings except for models turned off as I don't like the Luclin models. No significant slowdowns except for it lagged a little bit in Planes of Power zones.

well, i took the plunge and bought the 2007 mac mini (1.83 ghz model). I'll upgrade the ram and hard drive as soon as it arrives, here's hoping it handles EQmac ok
