I need to do a 'simulated' update and then a possible rollback tomorrow to re-verify the update process for EQMac. Unfortunately the test EQMac server is having issues and there are no plans to open it up for public testing when those issues are fixed at this time.

Possible Timeline

In the morning I'll prep the patch which will probably be a new client, items and spells. The reason for these files is because they require the server to be restarted.

After lunch I'll bring down EQMac and update those files. Once they are updated, internal testers will log on to the EQMac server and do a sanity check to make sure everything appears to be working. At this point if there are any issues, we'll revert the files and bring the server up.

If everything goes well, the new code and data will stay and I'll open up the server.

I apologize in advance for doing this during primetime, but this is the best time to do it for me.

Downtime could be anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.

Release notes will be added to the patcher after it's confirmed working.

Hobart

Again, you rock.

I don't think anyone will mind it being a primetime downtime. It is an update, after all, and the server is finally getting the attention it desperately needed.

Great job. Thanks again.

For the great communication regarding both what is being done in terms of development and fixes, and to give prior warning to people of the update. Everyone understands that things can go wrong, and by keeping people well informed everyone will be far less stressed if things do fail :-)

Also I think its great that you are posting here on EQMac,. where they players tend to hang out. (we don't find the sony boards very condusive to chat)

I know I'll happily take a night off for this patch. Take all the time you need :)

Perhaps I'm being a little impatient, but any word on the status of this?

Bear with them. Lunchtime for Hobart is 3pm Eastern. As he mentioned it will probably impact primetime play. Let him focus on the patch and not the boards :)
