Hey all!

New player/returning to the server, and I have been attempting to do the Halfling (paladin) newbie armour quests in misty thicket. I'm nearly level 20 now and have only one piece. Not through lack of effort though. Most of the pieces require drops from 'Large Yellowjacket' wasps.

I am yet to see one single Large Yellowjacket. I've done as much reading on the web, but it's tricky as our server is so outdated for the few support sites around. From what I can gather the Large wasps spawn on the Rivervale side of the wall, while the Giant ones (found quite a few) spawn on the Runnyeye side. I've tried everything from killing everything in the area, to killing only bats, to hunting at different times of day. Nothing seems to work! My Druid even has track now, and still no luck.

Wondering if anyone has first hand experience of doing these quests and any tips to get the Large Yellowjackets?

I know the armour isn't great, but it's better than nothing and I like to do warm glow of fulfilment ;P

Cheers!

In case anyone reads this in the future, or was vaguely curious I have an update on this :)

Finally managed to start getting the Large Yellowjackets to spawn. I basically killed every single Bixie and Bat in the Rivervale half of the zone for about 30 minutes or so. There are also about 5 spawns of "a large...." Thicket Rats, Fruit Bats, Wood Spider etc. I think they all share the same spawn with Large yellowjackets. Once I killed these few mobs. I noticed yellowjackets started to appear. They are still quite rare, and the quest drops don't seem abundant, but at least I know how they spawn now!

My little tenderfoot halfling has been trying to get a drop from Yellowjackets for months (a Thorax I think). I'm beginning to believe they just don't drop.

usually each newby quest has one ultra ultra rare drop for one of the pieces. I remember 3+ years ago it took me about 14 hours to finally get a pristine forest drake scale to drop in GFay for hya =)

Don't get me started on Pristine Forest Drakeling Scales. It took me well over 200 kills to get one, and that was AFTER I started counting. I bet it was at least 250. Then I started another character that needed one. Kill me now... Since that time it's been a hobby of mine when bored to step into GFay and kill every one I can find. I won't tell you how many I've managed to get since I last really needed one in 2004...

They are the Holy Grails of EQ for me.

It's taking me forever with my Halfling Cleric (now lvl 15) to get the Thorn Drakling Scales. I've collected 1 Pristine and 3 damaged scales but no plain old "Thorn Drakiling Scales" yet :-(

I'm already to a point where I'm beyond the armor. Now I'm just doing it to say I managed to get the whole Stoutdeacon set.
