Seven years! That's how long I have been trying to find and kill this little dragon.

When I was a newbie, seven years ago, I went with some others to Timorous Deep and it was really scary! Someone told me about the sea dragon that could sneak up on you when you least expect it, and ever since then I was intrigued. I pledged to one day conquer my fear by slaying the little beast.

I read everything I could find about Faydedar. I asked everyone if they had ever seen it. Utdaan told me that he once saw it up, but that was before (I think) the server started its bi-weekly reset. Since that started, I hadn't heard a thing, and nobody that I know had seen hide or hair of Fay.

So, I made a little level 1 warrior and camped him in the fire pot room in the SW corner of the zone, where it was rumoured that Faydedar spawns. That was many years ago. I sometimes left him for weeks on end, but nothing. He just sat there starving, and never once died.

Then, a couple of weeks ago, after a discussion on eqmac about rare items, I let it be known that I had serious doubts about Faydedar's existence on Al'Kabor. After all, I hadn't once seen him, and only one person had ever seen him on tracking. Yinn read that discussion and told me that he had seen Fay's casting message while in the fire pot room, only hours after a server reset!

Finally I had a solid clue I could work with. So, after talking with Lyrad and Yinn about it, I decided I needed to set my alarm for 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning after the reset and wait. Work be damned.

My alarm woke me up from a fitful sleep. I logged on my little level 1 in the fire pot room, made a coffee and waited. Then, suddenly, nothing happened. I waited 'til 9 o'clock and then went and did my morning run. After that, my level 1 still patiently waiting, I showered and went to work. I didn't check in again until I got home around 7 that night, and I discovered, to my amazement, that my little level 1 was in Freeport! Dead at the flipper of Faydedar! Woohoo! Direct evidence that he exists! He spawned that time approximately 12 hours after the reset. I resolved to take the next reset Wednesday off work and camp him for real.

Then I learned there was going to be a reset probably this weekend because of the broken chat channels, and there was at exactly 10 p.m. pacific on Saturday. I got my heinie to the rock on raptor island, just NE of the fire pot room, set up my trusty level 1 again, and waited. It took precisely 14 hours and 45 minutes for Faydedar to spawn – from 10 p.m. to 12:45 Sunday. Yinn had mention that he saw him up around four hours after the reset. So, it appears that Faydedar can show up at a random time up to at least 15 hours or so after a reset, and maybe even longer. It can be a long or short camp, you never really know.

I logged on, having already buffed, and rode out SW towards his spawning grounds. I resisted his Dragon Roar! He was on to me! I turned and headed back to raptor island and the little wurm followed! I had him right where I wanted him – at long last dead at my feet in about 5 minutes!

Loot: Orb of Tishan, Selo's Drums of the March, Pod of Seawater, Dragon Bone Bracelet, Spell: Banishment, Spell: Entrapping Roots, Spell: Flaming Sword of Xuzl, Spell: Sunstrike.

I don't know for sure, but I think this is a server first!

And if you're wondering, there are TWO versions of Faydedar. One is triggered in the hidden motel section of Timorous Deep in the SE section of the zone, and the other is this one, the normal one. The triggered one is the one usually killed for the Druid epic, because it's easy to spawn. This one drops loot (supposedly) that the triggered one does not.

A big THANK YOU to Yinn for the tip that killed a dragon, and to Lyrad for all his wisdom and support!

Congrats! Glad to see real evidence of Faydedar's existence. Thanks for the detail description.

I was wondering about him, especially since I have never seen a leaf blower myself as long as I have been on the server. I guess I will be able to do Aveenia's epic here after all.

Of course, when I did my epic he was a triggered spawn I guess he's a random one now?

Druids still do a turn in to spawn him on hidden island in TD. Lana was camping the spawned version which gets killed by the iksar grandmaster not long after spawning due to bad blood between the two, hence that versions rarity. Grats Lana!

There are two versions of Faydedar, Aveenia. The one killed for the druid epic is the one that is triggered in the SE section of the zone in the hidden motel area. This one is the normal spawned, and extremely rare version. Though now that we know he's there I expect he'll die more often ;-)

Awesome! That explains my confusion, and now that you mention it I remember about the other one. Durrrrrrrr. It's been a looooooooong time, and took many tries to get him for my epic including getting ninja'd once on it so I think I have blocked a lot out.

So cool that you got him, though!

"Then, suddenly, nothing happened."

Lana, you forgot the classic Goon Show punchline -- "but it happened suddenly!"

(Everyone knows about the Goon Show, yes?)

Lovely story. Where else but Al'Kabor would mad obsessed people set their alarm for sparrowfart a.m. just to solo a weensy dragon for the sheer pleasure of proving that it really exists? Ms Mercyhand, we salute you.

Well done! I wonder if you're also the first non-priest class to solo a Kunark dragon on AK?

Maybe, but I'm not sure this dragon should really count, given that it's only level 55. Next up, KD!

Congrats, Lana! That is an awesome story and equally awesome screen shots.

I also loved the line, 'Then, suddenly, nothing happened.' It figures that it would also catch Circe's eye!

Now I must ask, could we consider your level 1 Warrior to be Captain Ahab, and you as Ishmael in this Al`Kabor version of the classic 'Moby Dick'?
