OK gotta share this one .....
Flashback 3 years. Here I am, about my first or second week playing Everquest on the PC server Veeshan. I was in West Commons, about lvl 12- 15 and was killing kodiaks for their skins. When all of a sudden my screen goes almost black. Kind of a dark gray. I think, ok I have been blinded, no big deal. Then it dawns on me that I can see my UI and my chat windows. hrrrrm strange.
So I start moving, thinking I am in some fog or something. but I cant see anything of the zone, just my UI. I start turning and soon I can see the faint outline of a tree in the far distance. I try and move twards it, but nothing. It doesnt seem to get closer.
I start yelling to the zone, if anyone can help me. Somehow I was blind, and needed help with cure blindness or something. Someone yells to me that they can track ( Neat, didnt know you could track ) and he would help me.
After about 5 minutes, I get a tell. The kind soul that was trying to help me said. I dont know what to do, I have see invis on, and I should be right on top of you, but I cant see you. Will you give me your Loc?"
My Loc? What the heck is Loc? So he explains /Loc to me, and I type it into my UI. numbers were something like -1205, 255, -10555
OK for those that dont know, the first number is your X axis, second your Y axis and third is the Z axis or height. I was negative 10,000 below the zone.
The guy then laughed and told me to look up.
HEY, OMG I can see trees and mobs and hey, there you are right above me !
I dont know how or why, but on my way from West Commons, headed tward the Kith Forest zoneline, I fell through the world. I was really freaked out for like 15 minutes, thinking I have been blinded by some Mob. I was able to turn ( With help from the tracker) and face the big pond in West Commons, moved to that, popped through the wall and into the water, swimming to the surface.
I feel for you guys! Been there done that, on the PC servers even.
** On a side note, mobs are usually not effected by the Z axis. As long as they can match the X and Y axis, they will usually be able to hit you. this is why its dangerous to cast AOE spells in multi story dungeons, like TOFS of such. The gnoll was directly above you IN the world and still smacking you Under the world. If you had looked straight up, you MIGHT have been able to hit him or cast on him. No guarantees. **
