I vaguely skimmed this because I am working on other stuff but I wanted to post my opinion. I have been a part of a few different groups of shakerpagers and have never seen the zone crash because of it. Only repercussion I have seen was weird spawns of Undead Vassels near fiends when you get a group there (im sure others can attest to it). Other than that, I have never seen PoV go down because of it, only the warrior and the puller usually go LD from the flood of mobs incoming to earthquake.

ALSO, you can Shakerpage PoN across the big river in the middle. You can pull hobbies, trees, the butterflys...many mobs from that other side...it looks something like this:

Hobgoblins run abnormally fast on this server (or maybe in general I just never noticed it when I played on PC). To the point that they are outrunning FoE with ease, and I think selos when I had my bard with me.

It *may* have been an issue of me pulling them up onto the forest area (before the drop off into the river) which perhaps glitched em, but ya... hobgoblins have owned me last few times I tried to pull them.

Why snare them?

Wizards can swarm very effectively, but it is done at full speed.

The camp mainly and PLing peeps. At that PoD camp, if you make your kiting area larger, you get more spiders and back then, they could DoT me to death in a hurry.

Gearing and AAs are a factor too. Can't quad ice burrowers until you have basically ER, SH and the Quick Damage AAs done. I forget the exact numbers, but when I first tried with no Quick Damaga AAs or Extended Range or even Spell Haste, they'd be beating on me before the spell finished casting. Eventually as I added ER, I think I could just land a spell and run away without being beaten on some of the time. Then I added in the Quick Damage AAs, followed by 15% spell haste and they made a night and day difference. That was 7 years ago, took about another year to get all the right class IV focuses. Stopped shortly there after quadding them as well as quadding ice burrowers and high speed kiting named in WW just isn't that much fun, mainly a lot of stress. (Basically they're impossible to snare, a druid or ranger might bother as if they land it, it'll last 15 minutes, but a wizard's is so short as to not bother.)

Back in the old days, we leveled to 65 in Nightmare and Disease.

Why?

As Illicit mentioned, you couldn't get into the other planes. The access quests gave the keys, but the keys didn't work! Spectrals were few and far between from the raids in Tier1 zones, and Runes were nowhere to be found.
Eventually (early 2005?) we bitched enough that they fixed the access issue by updating some server-side stuff to a later PoP time period, which gave the level-based access to everything below Elementals (the 85% rule has never worked right though).
They also had a GM give out bags of Spectrals and Runes to everyone that was level 65, which was amazingly awesome for casters.

There was also a short period of time when you couldn't go to PoHate. And Hollowshade Moor was broken in that you could zone IN, but you couldn't zone OUT. Had to have a GM get you out. (I was VERY new and stayed away from that zone like the plague. The thought of being stuck there for any length of time scared the you-know-what outta me!) For you smithers, the war in Hollowshade didn't work either. I remember a guildie of mine from SoN doing some testing once they got it fixed. He was a ranger and his name started with Red....I just can't remember the last of his name.

For some number of months I'd get a tell every second or third time I logged on to port a party out, people just lived with what they had.

I guess I approach it a bit differently, my experiences started when no one had focus items. Everyone pestered mages to no end for the summoned ones, Bastette left corpses to save them between logins, it really became having a spell that could hit with reasonable damage in a quick time and run speed differential. Once you're 65 and have all your spells, it's then just run speed differential.
