Patch details here:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=187350

- Bristlebane has been shuffling his Deck of Spontaneous Generation and has thrown in a few new tricks. (Five previously unobtainable items that resulted from combinations of mischief cards can now be created.)

If as it says in this thread, this line of code was an easy fix, we should see about Hobart looking at it for our server ya?

We don't have the same PoM that is on PC side, so no.

That is true. However, I am positing, and I suppose also wondering if the "new" recipes are combinations that haven't worked before, and could possibly be made using the Deck of Spontaneous Generation in our code, and only require a small fix to the same item.

The reason for my thinking this could be possible is because as you put it, we don't have the same PoM, which is correct, but because the cards no longer drop on PC side, this fix is retroactive and only affects those that have the old quest items, which are the same quest items AK PoM uses.

And so, if the assumptions presented in the second thread linked are proven to be valid, and this is potentially a relatively simple code fix, it's reasonable to wonder if there was a bug or error in code that prevented 5 Deck combinations from working, maybe the lines of code governing these same Deck combos were copied over when the sever was made, Hobart might be able to translate it/replicate it/apply it to our server also.

If these are completely new items, generated now, then of course, yes they are not in our version of the game. It looks to me however, to be merely a fix someone noticed years too late, and instead of sneaking it in unannounced, it made it into the patch notes.

Given the conditions of our server, it's probably worth investigating if these 5 items exist in our data, and if the fix to the Deck of Spontaneous Generation could be applied to AK to allow for 5 new quested items on our server.

Yeah, this fix is in regards to the Deck of Spontaneous Generation that we have and the PoM cards that still drop for us. I can't speak as to whether the combinations create items that exist in our itemdb. I also can't speak to the easiness of the fix. Sorting through a database as big as EQ's without the modern tools PC side devs have must be like wading through mud.

I will say that Hobart doesn't post here, though. You're more likely to get a response on the official EQ forums somewhere. I've also heard he's pretty busy with Vanguard, at the moment.

Also, as far as I know, his updates have been to institute specific, historical versions of the server code/scripts, not to modify thing piecemeal. To do so would require each change to be done again every time he updates us to a new server-side version of the component that the update touched. That would be labor intensive and inefficient from his perspective, I believe. For a comparison, we have several horribly broken spell effects that could easily be fixed with the same kind of simple edit, but have not been.

Aside from some of the oft debated fixes like PermaPac, I suppose then this is simply worth mentioning or having as public knowledge as a possible upgrade someday, amongst other limited upgrades, like fixing some of the still missing ornate mold drops and so forth.

I don't mean to purport this as urgent or world shattering, simply hey, this might be a neat thing to look into someday, in the same vein as some of our other hopes and dreams for patching up small things on our server.

That is all. =)

And I suppose posting on official forums might work to maybe get Hobarts attention, but again I also know our community speaks to him from time to time, so a little public awareness can't hurt!

I did find a "new" recipe recently for a Mask of the Tundra Walker, AC10 WIS8, Illusion: Barb, Cast Time 7.0, Class: Cleric, Race: Hum/Eru, combing Black Throne, Blue Throne, Black Crown, Blue Crown, which Allah says is supposed to give a Globe of Darkness. I can't remember doing that combine before so I'm not sure if our PoM was changed, but I've noticed the drop rates changed drastically a few months ago: used to get thrones in Alice's 1/20, now 0/100+; all the puppets seemed about the same 1/20; now I've only gotten them from the Bristlebane Puppet only. I get the sense that Hobart changed our PoM this year. Can anyone confirm this?

Very interesting, Miuma. I can't recall if I ever did that combine before either, but I'm leaning towards yes and getting a globe of darkness at the time. I can't even find that mask listed on any web site so it seems like it could be an entirely new item discovered. Out of curiosity, was it droppable?

This was no-drop (as is all the PoM crafted stuff).
I was the wrong race to equip the item, but I didn't try clicking it from inventory. Does anyone know if there are items that you can click from inventory even if you can't equip them?

I think Star of Eyes is clickable by all classes from inventory - not just Wizards. Then again it isn't an equipable item at all, so this answer probably only half-relates to your question, Miuma.

That said, I'd love to get my Erudite Cleric that mask!

Amulet of Necropotence and Guise of the Deceiver are 2 others clicked from inventory by anyone.

Amulet is also equippable by all though, so that one's counted out. Was the pre-nerf guise all/all?

The pre-nerf guise was not all/all, no.

There are plenty of items which can be clicked in inventory by all, or by classes/races not listed as "equippable," so while there is a precedence, it doesn't make it any more likely that an item may be usable by others.

I realize the burdon of proof is on me, but I think you guys can rest easy with anecdotal evidence on this one. Or google to your hearts content, whichever!
