I've been searching around and I haven't found a good leveling guide.

So, for all you veterans out there who have gone through the grind several times.

What is your standard leveling tree?

I'm pretty sure that when I reach 10 I'll head over to Kurn's or Befallen to about level ...?

Then maybe Unrest or U-Guk?

I dunno.... I've been away for 2 long, let me know how you do it.

Thanks.

Fastest way to get into your 20s is Kurns -> Paludal Caverns

Not too much in the way of loot though

Fastest imo is just straight to Paludal Caverns. Start at the entrance from Shadeweavers where there are low level bugs/shrooms and then work your way in. It's quite a natural progression of mob levels the further you go in so it's easy to level from 1 to 25 there.

If it's your first character though I would highly recommend doing the newbie armor quests in your early levels instead (assuming your race/class has them), as it's more fun and will give you some nice little start out items.

I don't like following the crowd. Everyone keeps taking the same advice and they all do the same thing. Field of Bone, Kurns, Paludal, HHK. Yuck.

I do the Field of Bone thing but I stay there until 12 or so. Then I like to go to Unrest. I'm old school. Unrest can take you quite far, if you like, to 30ish. Marus Seru after that -- lots and lots and LOTS of mobs, easy to pull singles. Then DSP rockhoppers can take you to 50ish. After that, it's PoP.

Along the way you'll get valuable tradeskill drops. Marus Seru drops greyhopper hides. DSP drops rockhopper hides. Both help with tailoring.

Your play style will make a difference. Are you being PL'd? If so, then you need a zone with a LOT of mobs -- which you'll get on the path I use. Do you need a wide open space for kiting? Marus Seru and DSP have that, although Unrest may not.

If you really wish to just get to 50 the fastest then you grab kei/virtue in PoK and then hit:

Field of Bone till lvl 5 or 6
Kurns Tower till 16ish
Paudula Caverns untill mid 20's

Then go live in High Hold Keep till you ding 50.

If you are gearless and do not want to beg, then do your noob armor/weapon quests in your hometown before heading to kurns tower. Just make sure you jump into groups in Paudula and HHK if you are not twinked and ride other peoples twinks to 50.

If you want just a more normal EQ experience, then just follow your nose. Enter your hometown noobie yard and just explore. (this is what I strongly recommend since you will be max level for the next several years anyways, may as well enjoy your leveling up and savor the world)

Every time I level up a new character, I really like to use up Kaesora for all of the levels I can. I just love that zone. It's been a while since I've been there, but I want to say with a group you could start there somewhere in the mid 20's and keep going until maybe about L40? Highly depends on gear/buffs/twinkage/groupsize/etc how early you can start there of course, and it's a bit "dangerous" in the sense that self-CR can be difficult. But worst case you can usually find a higher level toon around to help with a nasty CR.

I've been leveling another mage and have taken the path of FoB > Paladual > Castle Mistmoore > Droga > Lower Guk.

These zones may not suit you if you're soloing as there's a lot of mobs and trains.

There are several routes I take depending on if I would like to enjoy myself and relive some memories or grind it out fast-
The fast route
FoB-Kurns-PC-HK-DL/KC/bloodmaw trick if its a chanter or druid-PoJ-PON-Pov-tactics
Fun route (not all of these are visited but these are great fun zones)
Warrens-mistmore-unrest-upper guk-keasora-CoM-Drogga-Lguk-Velks-sebbilis-UP

Well, the standard zone progression is based a lot on the EXP modifiers. However, I disagree a bit *depending on circumstances*

Of course, a lot depends on your character choice and play style, but you're going to need at least some gear to be effective and gear costs money.

Log in. Do a who all (about your level). See if there are people you can group with online anywhere besides the bazaar. Grouping is almost always faster and safer than soloing. Besides, this game is about a 1000 times more fun in a group in my opinion.

If you are soloing. 1-5ish wherever you like. Kill spiders and skeletons netting you silk and bone chips which you can sell.
As soon as you can, start on the Wisps in someplace like the Commonlands. You can get silk, cat pelts, bone chips, and greater light stones. Do the turn in with the greater light stones and sell the book back to get about 9pp for each one. You're going to need money and this is the fastest way to earn it until the wisps go green. If some kind soul gives you some plat and some gear, you can do whatever you like, but you're going to need money for sure. This will get you that and EXP in a relatively safe place.

From 13, Kurns has great EXP. Unrest might provide more useful items.

It is not the same starting as a cold newbie as a twink alt on a PC. Think about what zones have drops you can use. Then schedule them along the way. Hill giant faming in the 30's may be needed, for example, more than HHK.

Personally I am also planning my leveling route. However, I have basically been staying around level 10 trying to figure out what my best trio of boxed characters is going to be. If your goal is to get up to your 60's as fast as possible, then there are a few options listed that will help you to do so. If you are less concerned about the speed you level up, then there are a world of options out there to incorporate some fantastic zones that may not be utilized much on this server.

I prefer PC from 1-25ish.
HHK Gobs to your later 30's.

I liked going to crystal caverns from the mid to late 30's to 45ish and clearing the caves there (Geos, Spiders, Terrors) so that I could obtain an item or two that might be usable as well as the cash from the gems the geos drop is pretty decent. Same goes for saving the silks from the spiders (tailoring component for skilling up or doing coldain prayer shawls). Can also camp the herbalist orcs etc for robes and backpacks with a bit of WR on them. If able, save the blocks and bricks from the orcs and sell them in bazaar (or in EC!). I know Vintage is in velious right now and there will probably be enough people willing to save some time by compensating you for your efforts.

Back to HHK Nobles from 45-51/52. After that its grind away in PoN or PoJ until 55.

55+ its Valor/Storms till 65.

I liked DSP hoppers through my 40s. The flawless hides sell for thousands a stack.

Ok well I'm nearing level 25 now.

I stayed at PC, easier to get to then Unrest. :)

First I would just like to thank everyone for their excellent inputs.

If I didn't mention this in the OP - I'm duel-boxing a DE SK and Cleric.

So now I am wondering where to go for 25'sh to 35'sh.

I am KOS with HHK guards. Should I just get invis and slip past guards and go down into the basement and hunt Gobs without looting them?

I don't really want to go to Unrest, Mistmoore or Guk and fight all the aggro/train issues.

I liked the comment about Marus Seru - I like hunting outside and or in wide open spaces where there is less chance of aggro.

When should I start Marus Seru?

Hell, at your level, you could kill the HK guards if you wanted to, Ahmed. The guards are only level 27 or so and drop a FS weapon everytime. Just buy your cleric a few invis potions to travel with the SK and head down to goblins when you want to try them.

Marus Seru is a good level 25-ish zone, that's where I leveled my Wizard when I was solo. but the exp in HK is almost double that of Seru...that shouldn't be a determining factor though, just an observation.
